Workshop
K-14 workshop on the Balkan region, a crossroads of peoples and cultures, and the site of many critical historical events

The Balkan Semester at the University of Kansas highlights contemporary and historical issues in the region through concerts, public lectures, art displays, and training sessions for Kansas secondary school teachers. Teachers are invited to this free Saturday workshop:

Materials: The Center for Economic Education will distribute one curriculum guide per participant according to their choice of focus: Globalization, by the National Council on Economic Education, or The Wide World of Trade, by the National Council on Economic Education. Teachers who receive the books will find high-quality materials to address Kansas standards in Economics; Geography; Kansas, US, and World History; Civics-Government; and Foreign Language.
Registration: The workshop is free but registration is required. Space is limited so register early! In addition to earning professional credit, participants may elect to be a "Teacher-Scholar" associated with the University of Kansas (KU) Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies (CREEES), and earn $100. To qualify, participants must: a) attend the workshop, b) create a lesson based on the workshop, and c) use the lesson in the classroom. CREEES will feature it online and share it with other teachers.
