Produced by

Teacher/student resource on East Asian art, focusing on China, Japan and Korea.

Beautifully designed and illustrated, this website is an excellent resource for students and teachers.  It offers a concise overview of East Asian artwork with extensive classroom materials that provide an interesting starting point for classroom discussions.  The site includes a great number of images to guide the student or teacher through many of the art styles of East Asia.

The contents of the site include:

  • Philosophies:  Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, Shintoism.
  • Museums: Links are provided to some of the best art museums containing Asian art.
  • Artworks:  Ceramics, painting, landscapes and portraits, sculpture, calligraphy, fabrics and traditional dress, masks, bronzes, and printmaking are examined, with links to other websites that provide more information about each medium or genre, student works, examples from different cultures and lesson plans.
  • Classroom Lessons:  Sixteen lessons, most being complete with images and clear explanations.
  • Maps and Timelines:  Maps of China, Japan and Korea, and lists of the Chinese dynasties, the Japanese historical periods, and the Korean eras.

Students and teachers can also browse the website by country.  Each country section has additional resources, from links to museums to guided online tours.
