Russia from 1800 to 1917

A Series of 20 Short Lectures on the History of Russia

This series, History 418, Russia 1800-1917, and the companion series History 417, Russia 800-1800 provide a good overview of Russia's history.

The series requires RealOne Player to access. The lectures are 10 to 15 minutes in length, with images, maps and linked quizzes.

The segments were edited from lectures delivered in 1987 by Professor Michael Petrovich, who taught Russian and Balkan History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Although he occasionally refers to the Soviet Union, which no longer exists, this does not detract from the value of the lectures as an introductory survey of Russian history.

Produced at: University of Wisconsin-Madison, Center for Russia, East Europe and Central Asia

Recommended by: UW-Madison CREECA

Length: 20 class periods

Year Produced: 1994

Material: Online lectures, maps, images, quizzes
