This curriculum unit combines a wealth of information about Islam and Muslims with interactive classroom activities that foster tolerance and respect for ethnic and religious diversity.

The learning activities that develop interpersonal and intercultural understanding based on respect for ethnic and religious diversity. The activities juxtapose sensitivity and diversity awareness with a critical analysis of the implications of intolerance toward specific ethnic and religious minorities in the US. They explore ways to preempt or combat bias and bigotry in the wake of 9/11.

The unit is organized in three modules consisting of twelve 50-minute lessons:

  • Empowerment through alliance
  • Being Muslim in [your town here]
  • Action plan workshop
  • Field trip to an Islamic institution
